Toddler Approved Snack Mix

Isla has always been a great eater. She eats really well at mealtimes but she’s also a huge snacker. She doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth (thank goodness) but I think she gets burnt out on certain snacks after awhile. It’s hard to find a snack that isn’t messy (like veggies and hummus dip) but I have finally found something that is travel friendly and less messy. Keep reading to see how to make the Toddler Approved Snack Mix that my toddler loves!

I was trying give Isla a variety of snacks in her snack cup and it kind of turned in to a trail mix of sorts. Minus nuts, of course. If you have an older child, nuts are fine to add. The mix had plenty of crunch, so I don’t feel like it was lacking anything. The only problem is, is that the snack cup is clear and she tries to pick out what she wants which can lead to cereal on the floor. She does eventually eat all of it though, if our dog doesn’t help her out.  I think she feels like she is getting to choose what she eats and she likes having options. She also holds up each piece to ask what it is, so it’s also a fun learning opportunity for her.

I tried to come up with as many textures as possible while staying with in the range of food she would eat.

Raisins / Dried Fruit (Chewy & Sweet)

Raisins are her favorite but you could sub in any dried fruit. She also loves dried pineapple.

Cereals (Dry & Crunchy)

I then added some plain Rice Chex and some Cheerios for the crunch factor. You could also do Honey Nut Cheerios if you wanted but I used what we had on hand. Another good options would be to use pretzels. She likes those too but I forgot to pick some up at the store.

Yogurt bites (Soft & Sweet)

I buy these at Aldi but I’ve seen them other places too. She loves these things. They are always the first thing she eats when I make her this.

Tiny chocolate chips. (Melts in your mouth)

I throw some semi sweet tiny chips in (Just a few) to add some sweetness. I like that they are tiny so the melted mess on her hands is minimal. You could always use bigger chips or the tiny peanut butter cups if you wanted. The chocolate chips sink to the bottom of the snack bowl so they are are the last thing she eats and sometimes she is so full that she doesn’t touch them.

Toddler snack mix ingredients:

  • Raisins
  • Chex
  • Cheerios
  • Yogurt bites
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Goldfish – Optional (I didn’t include them in this particular mix because I had the chocolate and yogurt bites which are sweeter. If you were going for a salty mix then I think they would work well).

There you have it. Most of her snacks at home revolve around fresh fruit, cheese or yogurt so it is nice to change it up a bit and this mix is sure to keep her occupied for a few minutes. This is also a good one for on the go since its all dry ingredients and would be an easy clean up if it spilled.

This is a super short post but let me know if you use it or would like to see other snack ideas that I make for Isla. I also have a post coming up that includes toddler rainy day activities that are Isla Rose approved.

What are some of  your favorite Toddler Approved Snacks?

Happy snacking!
