My Evening Routine

I just love a good routine and even though my evening routine looks much different than it did before having a baby, it still leaves plenty of time to get everything done, spend time with the family and have some self care.

My evening routine begins the second I get off work, usually about 4:30. I pick up Isla from daycare at about 4:50 and then we head home.

I love this one on one time with Isla before Evan gets home. We get to play and she shows me the new skills she learned at daycare that day. I sometimes will put on music for us to dance to (typically oldies).  She loves to dance and it is so funny to watch. We’ve also been playing catch with this little foam ball and she has quite an arm on her. We have a blast together.

At about 5:30 I will start Isla’s dinner. If Evan is home, he does the cooking and will make our dinner and I will feed her some of that but most nights I make her something and then eat with him after she is in bed. We like to eat as a family but it doesn’t always happen. I spend a few minutes each night trying to get her to try a new food or encouraging her to eat. She isn’t a picky eater but she will get bored and throw food off her tray if someone isn’t watching.

At about 6pm I will give her a bath (she gets a bath everyday but I only wash her hair every other day), do some lotion/ baby massage because I feel like it calms her down a bit before bed time.

Evan usually is home by now and he will read her a bedtime story. Sometimes twice and it’s so cute. She is such a daddy’s girl. She gets so excited to see him and sometimes this can make for a later bed time, especially if she is all excited.

Then we brush her teeth, put her in her sleep sack, pray together and I sing her a song and she goes right to sleep.

After she is down for the night, I’ll feed the dogs and let them in to eat. (They are usually out while Isla eats because she has been known to give them her dinner).

Evan typically has dinner ready or has picked something up and then we get to eat together and talk about our day.

After dinner, we get the day care bag packed for the next day, wash her crib sheet, make bottles, put water in her sippy-cup, pack 2 snacks and pack her lunch. We make her lunch and send her with snacks every day. I just like packing stuff that I know she likes to eat.

I also set out her outfit for the next day. It’s just so much easier than trying to run around and find an outfit the next morning.  We set out outfits for ourselves as well so it isn’t stressful in the morning.

Then we take turns loading the dishwasher and folding laundry. We have to run the dishwasher and do a load of laundry every day. Once the chores are done, we sit down and watch one of our shows or work on little projects like my blog or some hand painted signs. I like to get everything done before we sit down for the night. It feels so good to go to bed with a clean house. It doesn’t always happen but we make an effort everyday.

We head off to bed about 10pm and I’ll brush my teeth, use my one step facial cleanser put on my moisturizer and hop into bed. If I know that I am washing my hair the next morning, I’ll try to pull out my hair products and towel for in the morning.

I hope you enjoyed this evening routine. If you did please leave a comment down below and I’ll post my morning routine as well. My mornings are a little more relaxed because I find that the more I do the night before, the better morning I have. It’s nice to just get up and get to snuggle Isla a little bit before work.

Have a great week, everyone!
